Mohammed Apopo is a simple man. He speaks very little and wastes
no time on words. Strange idiosyncrasies for a man who loves football and has
made a business out of building football pitches in Accra.
With a reputation as one of the fastest growing economies in
Africa has come a real estate boom in Ghana that has affected the one sport
that turns the blood of many a Ghanaian. Accra used to be a city of several
football grounds. From Chorkor to Mamprobi through Kawukudi to Madina, several
dust patches served as training areas and playgrounds from where some of the
most talented footballers in the world have emerged. That was all overtaken in
the real estate boom.
Mohammed Apopo is the man at the heart of giving back playing
areas back to the community. A businessman who chose to invest his money in the
passion of a nation.
