Ghana Football Association boss,
Kwesi Nyantakyi says Fifa should be commended for suspending FIFA
president, Sepp Blatter for 90 days.
Blatter is
accused of signing a contract "unfavourable" to football's governing
body and making a "disloyal payment" to Uefa president, Michel Platini.
Speaking on Citi FM, Nyantakyi said, "It
was a bit shock to all of us, I am surprised that these events are
unfolding in FIFA and it doesn’t pertain well for the image of the
organization but anything that happens, happens for a good reason. We
have to welcome it and hope that they will be able to clear themselves
and if they are not up and doing, the appropriate sanctions will have
to be applied duly. I think Fifa must be commended rather condemned in
current circumstances. FIFA is taking the bull by the horn; Fifa is
trying to address the concern with a strict law of evidence against
anybody. I don’t think anybody should be spared.
Many
other organizations have not been bold enough to sanction their
officers. For an organization the chief executive or Chairman or
President to order as it is the case with FIFA and put a suspension on
him, I think is unprecedented".
Members of
Fifa's ethics committee met this week after the Swiss attorney general
opened criminal proceedings against Blatter, 79, last month.
Cameroon’s
Issa Hayatou and Spain’s Angel Maria Villar are in line to take over as
interim heads of football’s world and European governing bodies
following the suspension on Thursday of Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini.
