Africa World Airlines Apigy Afenu resigns

Citi Business News has gathered the Chief Operations Officer of Africa World Airlines (AWA) Apigy Afenu, has resigned.
His resignation takes effect from September 30, 2015.

Apigy Afenu was appointed Chief Operations Officer of AWA in 2012, and is credited with overseeing the transformation and growth of the airline over the past three years.

He is also credited with attracting South Africa airways to code- share with AWA to Washington DC in the US

 Though it is not clear why Apigy Afenu resigned from the company Citi Business News sources have attributed his fallout with the company over a rift between one of the airline’s directors and the co-founder of AWA Togbe Afede over some financial disagreements.


Prior to working with AWA, he worked at United Airlines as a Financial Controller, EMEA from 2004 to 2009 where he began his career in airlines and served as a Senior Associate from 2001 to 2003.

Mr. Afenu has more than 20 years work experience in financial management, in areas ranging from financial services to transportation services.

Prior to rejoining United Airlines, Mr. Afenu was an Associate at Sterling Merchant Bank, and Lamont & Co.

Before that, he held management positions mainly in financial institutions. He attended the University of Ghana Business School and holds a BSc in Business Administration he also has an M.B.A. in Finance from Yale School of Management, United States.

Meanwhile Citi Business News has gathered that one Captain Samuel Thompson will be taking up Apigy Afenu’s position.
