Frimpong Manso quits Presbyterian Church over gay issues

The immediate past Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Yaw Frimpong Manso, has renounced his membership from the church. His resignation follows what he refers to as a ‘disrespect to his person and ministry’.
The leadership of the Presby Church Ghana(PCG), had declared their intentions to severe ties with the pro-homosexual Presbyterian Church of the United States of America.
Against this backdrop, a letter was written by the Moderator of the Presby Church Ghana, Rt. Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey, to his predecessor who has been in Virginia on assignment, asking him to return to Ghana latest by December 31, 2015.
Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Martey had stated among other things that the Presbyterian Church of USA’s decision to ordain gay pastors, elders and deacons is not biblical and described it as ‘demonic’.
He maintained that the Presbyterian Church Ghana will not accept the act because it is a total “deviation from Bible principles.”
But Rev. Dr. Yaw Frimpong Manso in an interview said the General Assembly did not accord him the needed respect before taking the decision to recall him from the USA.
“I was not given a hearing before they took the decision to recall me. I think it is disrespectful to my person and ministry,” he said.
“I cannot serve two masters so I will stay here, do the work of God and win more souls for Christ” he added.
Meanwhile the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America, Rev. Yaw Nkansah, has accused the Moderator of the Presby Church in Ghana, Rev. Prof Emmanuel Martey of tarnishing the image of the church.

According to him, the comments by Rev. Martey over a purported decision by the Church in USA to accept homosexuality has no basis.
He explained that although the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has branches in the US, they are not affiliated to the Presbyterian Church of the United States which has accepted and ordained gay pastors, elders and deacons.
Meanwhile citifmonline.com is reliably informed that beyond the reasons officially cited for Rev. Frimpong Manso’s exit, issues of ideological differences and other forms of internal church politics has existed over the years among the leadership.
Below is the letter of resignation sent to the Presbyterian Church of Ghana by Rev. Frimpong Manso.
Re: Resignation from the PCG
In view of the current misunderstanding of the PCG concerning the extension of my call to the service of the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church through the Presbytery of New York City and the clear understanding of the PNYC of the PC (USA) policy regarding transfer of my membership to the Presbytery and for that matter under their jurisdiction in their letter of September 24, 2015 to you, I have decided with the support of my family to resign from the Ministry of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana with effect from October 31, 2015. I wish you all the best in the LORD.
Signed
Very Rev. Dr. Yaw Frimpong-Manso.
Cc: Stated Clerk, PNYC, PC(USA)
