Internal party fights not affecting NPP’s chances – Nana Addo

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo has discounted claims by political analysts that the current standoff among the leadership of the party could cost them in the 2016 general elections.

Though he conceded that the party is currently facing some challenges, Nana Addo said the party is solid at the grass root.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, Nana Addo said “I see those challenges at the level of the national leadership; the steering committee and its members. You don’t see any of that on the grounds fortunately from our party.”

Speaking about the disagreements just before he embarked on his nationwide Rise and Build tour, Nana Addo said the supporters at the grassroots are not really bothered about the wranglings among the leadership, but are rather focused on winning the elections for the party.

“It appears that  a lot of people are determined to get on with the main task of winning minds, influencing the votes next year and hoping that we the leadership of the party will resolve whatever problems we have at the level.”

“I’m very happy that I did the tour, and I did it for two reasons. It is obvious from how the NPP people braced it in the countryside, and in the regions and constituencies that they needed something like this. Something that will reinvigorate the party and bring back the morale. The way the tour was hailed across the country encouraged me considerable that the decision to do it has been very accepted. Secondly, it gave us the opportunity to send messages to the Ghanaian populace,” he added.
