A recent study has revealed that that men hate sexual infidelity while women can't forgive emotional infidelity.
Emotional and sexual infidelity is cheating to both sexes but in different ways.
Women and men react differently to different types of infidelity due to difference in psychology according to the study.
"Men and women's psychology is similar in most areas -- but not when it comes to reproduction," an associate professor Mons Bendixen from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology said.
Sexual
infidelity is simply having sex with someone other than your partner
with no emotional attachment, while emotional infidelity is having an
intimate attachment with someone who isn't your partner.
In the research
conducted with over 1,000 participants, it was realised that men and
women reactions to jealousy and infidelity were strongly different.
This
is because men react emotionally to sexual infidelity while women
become more sensitive that their men are devoting more time and
attention to other women, according to evolutionary psychologists.
Hence a man isn't
likely to forgive a woman who cheats on him because his emotions have
been tampered with while a woman can still forgive a man who cheats on
her sexually but reacts jealously when she senses she's been cheated on
emotionally.
This makes infidelity one big challenge in relationships.
