Shanghai Shenhua striker Demba Ba has had the sympathy of the whole footballing world since he suffered a career threatening leg break in a Chinese Super League game at the weekend, during which his bones appeared to simply snap in half.
Ba is believed to have been placed under general anesthetic after being taken to hospital. But after being woken several hours later, undoubtedly in severe pain after the break was set, the first thing he wanted to know was what happened in the rest of the game.
Ever the professional, the Senegalese front-man, formerly of West Ham, Newcastle and Chelsea, is believed to have asked the medical staff tending to him, "Did we win the game?"
Shenhua did indeed beat local rivals Shanghai SIPG 2-1, although head coach Gregorio Manzano was in no doubt what he would have preferred.
"I would rather lose the game than lose Ba," the Spaniard said.
