E-commerce/m-commerce is growing in the world at a rapid pace and India is one of the places where this growth is most rapid.
However, the country may have just taken the limits of e-commerce to a new stretch with the introductions of live goat sales. Yes!!! LIVE GOAT SALES! You read that right.
In a report on CNN money, states that the Eid celebrations saw a boom in the sales of goats online at e-commerce platforms like OLX and Quikr.
OLX, an online marketplace, has hundreds of goats for sale across India, ranging from a few dollars per animal to as much as ₵38,550.00 ( $10,000 ), the report says.
But it is not just Quikr and OLX that are selling goats, but there’s a dedicated website for this as well – GoatIndia.com. Don’t believe us? Click that link (apologies over the click baiting).
At Indian Livestock Farm we select best growing bucks (male Goats) from flock of goats for Eid purpose, young goats and baby goats to rear at our farms. Breed wise selection especially for Eid-ul-Azha and to fulfill the requirement of our selected regular base customer’s order. All booking of Eid Goats are in Advance through our website, agents and customers. You can display your Eid Goats here with price tags, height, weight and other useful information’s,” says the description on GoatIndia.com.
However, it is not all sunshine for the online sellers. A potential buyer was quoted saying to CNN Money, "We can't judge an animal just by looking at a picture on a website,". Tehseen Ahmed, a Muslim who was in the market for goats this week told CNN, "The health of the goat is important, and while purchasing online looks interesting, it can't work for me".
But this doesn't seem to deter the sellers, as some claim they will keep trying. And who know, live goats may soon be a thing you can get on Ghana's localized Tonaton, OLX, Kaymu or Tisu.com.gh.
